As mentioned in our previous post, we expected to see a female lay her eggs for the first time early this week. Well it happened on Monday, not once but twice!
At the end of the afternoon,Carole-Anne saw the females explore the island, dig their holes, to finally lay the eggs and recover them. We really have to get excellent visual cues to be able to find the nests, because once the turtles recovered them, there is practically no way to tell they were there! We got the first one quickly, but had to dig quite a large hole to find the second one.
Another spiny softshell turtle hung out in the area the whole day and we should see more of her in the coming days.
