3 ways you can help on World Wildlife Day

Today is World Wildlife Day!

It may not have as much name recognition as other days throughout the year, but it is a special day that we at Wildlife Preservation Canada like to celebrate. We’ve put together a short list of ways that you can join us in celebrating wildlife today.

1. Start planning your own wildlife sanctuary now!

Spring will be here before you know it and there are many ways that you can help animals right in your own back yard. One of the greatest threats to wildlife is habitat loss. As cities continue to grow, and agriculture lands expand, the habitat that animals rely on starts to vanish. We’ve gathered some great resources to help you get started no matter how big or small your space is. You’ll be rewarded when you start to see an increase in wildlife visiting your yard, knowing that it provides them with safe refuge.

2. Many hands make for light work!

All across Canada people concerned about wildlife are joining together to make a difference. You can volunteer for a one-day event or commit to longer projects like recurring wildlife surveys. Did you know that WPC volunteers gathered over 800 bumble bee observations last year for the national Bumble Bee Watch database? You can join the group for 2020 bumble bee surveys. If bumble bees aren’t your thing, there are many ways you can help with other species, like birds, turtles, and snakes.

3. Support a reputable wildlife charity like WPC.

Any day now our breeding centers across Canada will be celebrating the arrival of new babies. These young animals represent a hope and a future for their species. Along with the joy and hope comes a lot of expenses for items that are essential to raising these animals into healthy adults. Give a gift today towards many of our expenses like food, bedding, medicine, technology, and caregivers.
