Urgent action is imperative as a new global assessment reveals that Earth’s amphibians, are teetering on the brink of extinction. Findings show that 41 percent of amphibian species are now threatened, and the crisis is only getting worse. In under 20 years, we’ve seen another 160 species become vulnerable.
Amphibians are the most severely affected among vertebrates, more than mammals, reptiles or birds.
In light of these alarming findings, there is a pressing need for WPC’s groundbreaking work with amphibians like the endangered Oregon spotted frog in BC. Our recovery team has achieved amazing success in breeding, overcoming fungal pathogens, and have released thousands of healthy frogs back to restored habitat.
