Canatara Park
ABOUT THE SITE
Location: Sarnia, Ontario
Seed Provider: Ontario NativeScape
About the site:
This dune restoration project will help Sarnia show how beach conservation and tourism are not mutually exclusive, and that dunes and the presence of dune vegetation on a well managed shoreline can improve visitor experience. The project aims to restore eroding beach and dune habitats, while creating visually appealing and ecologically functional spaces. Restoration and stewardship initiatives such as beach grass planting continue to be undertaken in Canatara park by local educators, students, local non-profits, and city staff to reintroduce the natural beach landscape, and reduce the effects of erosion.
