Ever wondered why the loggerhead shrike wears a \u201cmask\u201d? It\u2019s not to go out trick-or-treating!<\/strong><br \/>\nSome birds\u2013 like many species of shrike\u2013 <strong>have evolved a dark feather \u201cmask\u201d, or eye-stripe<\/strong>, which scientists believe help<strong> reduce the sun\u2019s glare when the bird is hunting or foraging<\/strong>. The birds faced away from the sun when hunting, and were not as successful in catching their prey.
