l'Est?<\/strong>\u00a0Apr\u00e8s une chute pr\u00e9cipit\u00e9e de la population sauvage de pie-gri\u00e8che migratrice de l'Est dans les ann\u00e9es 1990, Environnement Canada a invit\u00e9 Conservation de la faune au Canada \u00e0 se joindre \u00e0 l'effort de r\u00e9tablissement multi-partenaires en 2001. Depuis, la taille de la population sauvage a fluctu\u00e9. Des \u00e9tudes ont montr\u00e9 que bien que l'effort de r\u00e9tablissement ait emp\u00each\u00e9 l'esp\u00e8ce de dispara\u00eetre du Canada, plus de travail est n\u00e9cessaire pour identifier et aborder les causes du d\u00e9clin de l'esp\u00e8ce. CFC travaille pour emp\u00eacher la pie-gri\u00e8che migratrice de l'Est de dispara\u00eetre en renfor\u00e7ant la population sauvage en Ontario, et en \u00e9tudiant l'esp\u00e8ce pour en apprendre davantage sur les menaces qu'elle fait face.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div><div  class='flex_column av-av_one_full-7714eba142aeda1f8b5272a3c372b279 av_one_full  avia-builder-el-7  el_after_av_one_full  el_before_av_one_full  first flex_column_div  column-top-margin'     ><section  class='av_textblock_section av-mrtjp3g6-16345f3a9e99294aa6fe4b7933884d34'   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>As August ended, field activities began to wrap up for the Eastern Loggerhead Shrike Recovery program. Although 2020 field work was cut a bit short due to the current health situation, loggerhead shrike had a successful breeding season in Napanee, Ontario. However, it is hard to be disheartened when greeted with views like this!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div><div  class='flex_column av-av_one_full-7714eba142aeda1f8b5272a3c372b279 av_one_full  avia-builder-el-13  el_after_av_one_full  el_before_av_one_full  first flex_column_div  column-top-margin'     ><section  class='av_textblock_section av-mrtjq41a-45698c161802e2369f2f9b86e3c92d26'   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>Loggerhead shrike sightings by the public<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although we have teams of biologists out in the field surveying for loggerhead shrike, sightings reported by members of the public through our Adopt-A-Site survey volunteers and landowners are also an important tool for the recovery program. This is especially important in areas where shrike have not been present for several years. We wish we could have our eyes and ears everywhere, but alas we are not gods but mere biologists!<\/p>\n<p>This summer there were four reported sightings of loggerhead shrike in the Napanee region by members of the public. All four sightings were of birds that were later confirmed as breeders and nests were located for those individuals. Additionally, the individual that had been flagged was a female that was born in 2018 and originated from our conservation breeding program at the Toronto Zoo. The sighting of this banded female provided valuable information on its survival, demographics, and movements since its release in 2018. In 2019, the female was found nesting on a site over 14 kilometers away from where it was found nesting this year. This shrike has been on the move!<\/p>\n<p>The sighting of this bird also provided insights on the success of the conservation breeding program and how it is contributing to eastern loggerhead shrike recovery in Canada.
