Slide 1<\/em>: How to take bumble bee photos for identification. Swipe to Learn.
Slide 2:<\/em> Where to look? Patches of flowers. Dandelions are great for bumble bee spotting in the spring and summer. Tips for beginners: use burst\/continuous photo mode, use macro mode for close-ups, take a video for screenshots late, crop photos, use as much natural sunlight as possible.
Slide 3:<\/em> What kind of photos should I take? 1. Side photo, this photo shows the: bands of colour on its side and upper body, some of its face, legs which can help identify if it’s: a girl or boy or cuckoo bumble bee (i.e. parasitic bee)
Slide 4:<\/em> 2. Back photo, this photo shows the: colour banding and patterns of the upper and lower body (if possible get a view with the wings open so that all patterns are showing!)
Slide 5:<\/em> 3. Face photo, this photo shows the: colour of the face, antennae which are helpful when identifying between male and female, shape of the face
Slide 6:<\/em> Make sure to submit your photos to BumbleBeeWatch.org! How to submit a sighting: 1. Take a photo of a bumble bee 2. Log in and upload your photo 3. Identify your species 4. Sighting will be verified by expert. The bumbles thank you.
