Depuis, la taille de la population sauvage a fluctu\u00e9. Des \u00e9tudes ont montr\u00e9 que bien que l'effort de r\u00e9tablissement ait emp\u00each\u00e9 l'esp\u00e8ce de dispara\u00eetre du Canada, plus de travail est n\u00e9cessaire pour identifier et aborder les causes du d\u00e9clin de l'esp\u00e8ce. Before we can expect a summer full of precious little hatchlings and nestlings we\u2019ve got to make sure that each of our birds has met its match; in other words, that each male and female has been paired successfully!<\/p>\n<p>Enter our <strong>Matchmaker<\/strong>, who is otherwise known as the program\u2019s consulting population geneticist! Our population geneticist carefully pairs up each bird in our breeding program, taking many things into consideration, including previous breeding history, inbreeding values, and offspring genetics.<\/p>\n<p>Once pair recommendations are made, our next step is to make sure birds are set up and comfortable in their breeding enclosures. This pair in our Conservation Breeding and Release Program are getting along in the same breeding enclosure. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-lft9vlnb-9e433c9d7740a21876955502ec2d4960'   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Once pairs are matched up and transferred to their breeding enclosures, keepers must observe signs of courtship before opening shared doors and introducing pairs to the same shared space. Signs of courtship include males offering females \u201cnuptial gifts\u201d (items of food gifted across shared walls), pairs perching beside one another on either side of a shared wall, males singing, and occasionally nest building. Once these courtship signs are observed, keepers will open shared doors and watch closely while pairs get to know each other in the same space. If it\u2019s a match, then pairs will begin nest building over the next few days!<\/p>\n<p>Our Matchmaker has been able to pair up all the birds in our breeding program for the season. Jane worked as a rehabilitation supervisor, where she was responsible for the care, treatment, and reintroduction of injured and orphaned wildlife, including many species at
