Quatre-vingt-dix pour cent de toutes les plantes \u00e0 fleurs \u2014 y compris la plupart des fruits et l\u00e9gumes dans votre r\u00e9frig\u00e9rateur \u2014 ont besoin de ces pollinisateurs pour se reproduire.<\/p>\n<p>Jusqu'\u00e0 ce que les causes de ces d\u00e9clins puissent \u00eatre invers\u00e9es, l'\u00e9levage de conservation et la r\u00e9introduction sont la seule fa\u00e7on de prot\u00e9ger les bourdons en p\u00e9ril. Mais avec le temps, j'ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 remarquer non seulement quels types d'oiseaux \u00e9taient pr\u00e9sents, mais aussi ce qu'ils faisaient r\u00e9ellement. Les insectes, il s'av\u00e8re, occupent beaucoup l'esprit des oiseaux.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Il y a une raison \u00e0 tout cela \u2014 <strong>les insectes sont fondamentaux \u00e0 la vie des oiseaux<\/strong>. Pendant la saison de reproduction, la plupart des oiseaux chanteurs comptent beaucoup sur les insectes pour nourrir leurs petits. Les chenilles, les mouches, les col\u00e9opt\u00e8res et m\u00eame les abeilles sont riches en prot\u00e9ines et en nutriments dont les poussins en croissance ont besoin. M\u00eame les oiseaux que nous consid\u00e9rons comme granivores, comme le chardonneret jaune et le cardinal rouge, se tournent souvent vers les insectes lorsqu'ils \u00e9l\u00e8vent leurs oisillons. Les bourdons sont parmi les pollinisateurs les plus efficaces dans le paysage du sud de l'Ontario, aidant les plantes \u00e0 se reproduire en d\u00e9pla\u00e7ant le pollen de fleur en fleur. Ils sont de v\u00e9ritables puissances car ils sont actifs t\u00f4t au printemps, quand peu d'autres insectes volent, et parce qu'ils visitent une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de plantes \u00e0 fleurs. Ce faisant, les bourdons aident \u00e0 maintenir les communaut\u00e9s v\u00e9g\u00e9tales qui forment l'\u00e9pine dorsale d'un habitat sain. Ces plantes ne soutiennent pas seulement les abeilles ; elles h\u00e9bergent \u00e9galement des chenilles, des col\u00e9opt\u00e8res et d'autres insectes dont les oiseaux d\u00e9pendent. Plus tard dans la saison, elles produisent les graines et les fruits que les oiseaux consomment directement. Quand les pollinisateurs d\u00e9clinent \u00e0 cause de la perte d'habitat et de l'utilisation de pesticides, tout le syst\u00e8me commence \u00e0 se d\u00e9r\u00e9gler.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En plus d'\u00eatre parmi nos meilleurs pollinisateurs, <strong>les bourdons sont de merveilleux ambassadeurs pour les insectes.<\/strong> Ils sont grands, duveteux, objectivement mignons et relativement faciles \u00e0 observer, m\u00eame si vous ne vous consid\u00e9rez pas comme un \u00ab amateur d'insectes \u00bb. <strong>Regarder un bourdon travailler m\u00e9thodiquement \u00e0 travers une parcelle de fleurs peut \u00eatre tout aussi captivant que regarder des oiseaux \u00e0 une mangeoire.<\/strong> Et heureusement pour nous, les bourdons nichent souvent dans nos propres jardins, utilisant du sol non perturb\u00e9, des touffes herbeuses ou d'anciens terriers de rongeurs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L'un des changements les plus significatifs que j'ai apport\u00e9s dans ma vie d'amatrice d'oiseaux et d'insectes est de moins penser \u00e0 attirer la faune avec des mangeoires et davantage \u00e0 cr\u00e9er de l'habitat. Elle poss\u00e8de une vaste exp\u00e9rience en sensibilisation environnementale, r\u00e9habilitation de la faune, et surveillance \u00e9cologique des oiseaux, des amphibiens, des reptiles et des insectes \u00e0 risque. Annika est titulaire d'une ma\u00eetrise en biologie int\u00e9grative de l'Universit\u00e9 de Guelph, o\u00f9 elle a men\u00e9 des recherches sur les facteurs limitants des zones humides agricoles
