Chaque ann\u00e9e, CFC s\u00e9lectionne un biologiste d\u00e9vou\u00e9 parmi des candidats \u00e0 travers le Canada pour entreprendre un cours de 3 mois \u00e0 la Durrell Conservation Academy au Royaume-Uni, suivi d'un stage de 6 mois sur l'\u00eele Maurice dans l'Oc\u00e9an Indien. C'est une occasion unique pour les jeunes Canadiens d'apprendre directement comment fonctionnent les programmes de r\u00e9tablissement de la faune les plus r\u00e9ussis au monde, et de ramener ces connaissances et cette exp\u00e9rience pour renforcer la capacit\u00e9 de conservation du Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Pour la toute premi\u00e8re fois, CFC propose ce stage \u00e0 deux biologistes. Nos No\u00e9 2026 sont Jenna Kissel \u2013 la 35<sup>\u00e8me <\/sup>No\u00e9 du Canada de la CFC, et Daryn Farrant \u2013 le 36<sup>\u00e8me <\/sup>No\u00e9 du Canada de la CFC. Pour ceux qui ont suivi <strong>mon parcours de No\u00e9 <\/strong><\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\"><strong>il y a pr\u00e8s de trois<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\"><strong> longues ann\u00e9es <\/strong>(le temps file !), vous vous souvenez peut-\u00eatre que pendant mon s\u00e9jour \u00e0 Maurice, j'ai <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\">particip\u00e9<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\"> \u00e0 des relev\u00e9s entomologiques sur quelques \u00eeles au large. Passant mes journ\u00e9es \u00e0 apprendre \u00e0 propos des tortues d'Aldabra, les esp\u00e8ces envahissantes, les m\u00e9thodes d'\u00e9chantillonnage <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\">et la<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\"> r\u00e9introduction de plantes indig\u00e8nes\u2026 J'ai aussi eu l\u2019occasion d'apprendre aupr\u00e8s du personnel du <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\">Programme de restauration des \u00eeles, un partenariat entre <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\">la <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\">Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\">la Fondation pour la faune de Maurice <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\">et le Service national des parcs et de la conservation, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\">et de participer \u00e0 certains relev\u00e9s! En utilisant diverses m\u00e9thodes, j'ai aid\u00e9 \u00e0 faire le relev\u00e9 des plus petites cr\u00e9atures de l'\u00eele comme les fourmis, col\u00e9opt\u00e8res et papillons de nuit, pour mieux comprendre la composition des <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\">diff\u00e9rentes esp\u00e8ces<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW41934561 BCX4\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW74490769 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-CA\" xml:lang=\"EN-CA\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW74490769 BCX4\">En plus d'\u00e9chantillonner la communaut\u00e9 plus large, <strong>nous avons \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9s d'une mission sp\u00e9ciale<\/strong> <strong>\u2013 la recherche d'une araign\u00e9e tr\u00e8s inhabituelle.<\/strong> Avant mon arriv\u00e9e, certains scientifiques de Maurice avaient remarqu\u00e9 une araign\u00e9e int\u00e9ressante sur l'une des petites \u00eeles au large du continent. D\u00e9couverte uniquement en apercevant ses longues pattes  sortant d'une petite trappe, cette araign\u00e9e nocturne <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW74490769 BCX4\">semblait vivre<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW74490769 BCX4\"> dans des rochers de corail <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW74490769 BCX4\">tr\u00e8s pr\u00e8s<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW74490769 BCX4\"> de la c\u00f4te. Dans certains cas, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW74490769 BCX4\">il <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW74490769 BCX4\">semblait que ces trappes<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW74490769 BCX4\"> puissent \u00eatre immerg\u00e9es par l'eau de mer \u00e0 mar\u00e9e haute. Seulement d'environ la taille d'une pi\u00e8ce de vingt-cinq cents, ces <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW246335462 BCX4\">trappes presque invisibles<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW246335462 BCX4\"> se confondent parfaitement avec le rocher, couvertes de sable et d'algues.
