Selon le Comit\u00e9 sur la situation des esp\u00e8ces en p\u00e9ril au Canada (COSEPAC), plus de 40 esp\u00e8ces d'amphibiens et de reptiles sont actuellement menac\u00e9es ou en danger. Plus d'un tiers de ces esp\u00e8ces ont besoin d'une intervention directe pour survivre. Notre programme national des reptiles et des amphibiens d\u00e9veloppe et promeut les meilleures pratiques pour quatre techniques cl\u00e9s de conservation : la translocation, l'\u00e9levage pr\u00e9alable \u00e0 la lib\u00e9ration, l'\u00e9levage de conservation et les interventions in situ. Nous amplifions l'impact des groupes de partout sur le continent qui travaillent \u00e0 la protection de ces esp\u00e8ces tr\u00e8s menac\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div><div  class='flex_column av-bmlyryb-702d1281d1925b3e4bbbc135c91690ed av_one_full  avia-builder-el-7  el_after_av_one_full  el_before_av_one_full  first flex_column_div  column-top-margin'     ><section  class='av_textblock_section av-bcqizsz-3fa33b2d0784b0211921466b46824e54'   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La condition corporelle est une mesure que les \u00e9cologistes et les biologistes de la conservation utilisent souvent pour \u00e9valuer la quantit\u00e9 de r\u00e9serves d'\u00e9nergie qu'un animal poss\u00e8de. Un individu en bonne condition corporelle est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme ayant plus de r\u00e9serves d'\u00e9nergie, comme la graisse, qu'un individu en moins bonne condition corporelle. Cette mesure \u2014 la condition corporelle \u2014 est pr\u00e9cieuse car elle influence directement la survie et le potentiel de reproduction d'un animal. Il a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tabli qu'elle est li\u00e9e \u00e0 de nombreux aspects de la biologie et de l'\u00e9cologie animales, notamment le <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/jez.2053\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">succ\u00e8s de la recherche de nourriture, les comportements avantageux, une meilleure fonction immunitaire et la capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 persister dans des environnements physiologiquement difficiles.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ainsi, la connaissance de la condition corporelle et de son impact sur l'aptitude d'une esp\u00e8ce peut aider les efforts de conservation actuels et futurs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Il existe quelques m\u00e9thodes courantes pour \u00e9tudier la condition corporelle, chacune avec ses propres avantages et inconv\u00e9nients. Parfois, nous utilisons des mesures de la longueur corporelle totale et du poids d'un animal et comparons la relation entre ces mesures \u00e0 celles d'autres individus de la population pour approximer la quantit\u00e9 de r\u00e9serves de graisse qu'ils ont (c'est-\u00e0-dire les indices de condition corporelle). Pourtant, l'utilisation et la pertinence de cette m\u00e9thode pour les amphibiens est discutable, car leur poids peut changer consid\u00e9rablement sur de courtes p\u00e9riodes selon leur niveau d'hydratation. Cela signifie que les indices de condition corporelle bas\u00e9s sur le poids d'un amphibien sont souvent une fa\u00e7on inexacte de quantifier les r\u00e9serves d'\u00e9nergie. Une alternative est la mesure de la composition corporelle, qui implique de mesurer la quantit\u00e9 de graisse, de tissu musculaire maigre et d'eau qui composent le corps d'un animal. C'est une mesure beaucoup plus directe des r\u00e9serves de graisse d'un individu. Traditionnellement, cela a n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 l'euthanasie de l'animal, puis une s\u00e9rie de m\u00e9thodes chimiques sont utilis\u00e9es pour mesurer les diff\u00e9rents tissus ; un processus connu sous le nom d'analyse chimique de carcasse (ACC). Cependant, il existe un nouveau type de technologie non l\u00e9tale utilis\u00e9e pour quantifier les r\u00e9serves d'\u00e9nergie d'un animal sans ces probl\u00e8mes, appel\u00e9e R\u00e9sonance magn\u00e9tique quantitative (RMQ). La RMQ fonctionne sur le m\u00eame principe de base qu'une machine IRM, mais au lieu de g\u00e9n\u00e9rer une image \u2014 comme ce que vous verriez dans un h\u00f4pital \u2014 cette machine fournit simplement des lectures sur la quantit\u00e9 de graisse, de masse musculaire maigre et d'eau pr\u00e9sentes dans l'individu. Mais une limitation de cette m\u00e9thode est que les machines RMQ ont \u00e9t\u00e9 initialement construites pour les mammif\u00e8res et la recherche m\u00e9dicale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/s10336-011-0724-z\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pourtant, cette m\u00e9thode est de plus en plus appliqu\u00e9e en \u00e9cologie et en conservation de la faune.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Dans cette \u00e9tude, nous testons si l'utilisation d'une machine RMQ, une fa\u00e7on non invasive de mesurer la composition corporelle, est une m\u00e9thode viable pour les amphibiens. Plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment, nous avons \u00e9tudi\u00e9 les salamandres macul\u00e9e (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ambystoma maculatum<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> et <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A. laterale<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) et les crapauds d'Am\u00e9rique (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anaxyrus americanus<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). Avant d'\u00eatre utilis\u00e9e pour \u00e9tudier de nouveaux taxons, la m\u00e9thode RMQ n\u00e9cessite une validation et potentiellement un \u00e9talonnage par rapport aux mesures traditionnelles de quantification de la composition corporelle, comme l'ACC. Cette m\u00e9thode implique de dess\u00e9cher un sp\u00e9cimen d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 dans un four de s\u00e9chage pour d\u00e9terminer la masse en eau, puis d'extraire la graisse du sp\u00e9cimen \u00e0 l'aide d'un appareil Soxhlet et d'\u00e9ther de p\u00e9trole, puis d'incin\u00e9rer le sp\u00e9cimen, ce qui ne laisse que le contenu min\u00e9ral. Les poids apr\u00e8s chaque \u00e9tape donnent des mesures de la masse en eau, en graisse et en muscle maigre. Bien que l'ACC ait \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9e pour \u00e9tudier la composition corporelle depuis de nombreuses ann\u00e9es, elle pr\u00e9sente plusieurs inconv\u00e9nients. L'un des plus importants est qu'elle n\u00e9cessite l'euthanasie des animaux. Cela limite son application sur le plan \u00e9thique et emp\u00eache l'\u00e9tude des animaux en p\u00e9ril. Cela emp\u00eache \u00e9galement les chercheurs d'effectuer des \u00e9tudes \u00e0 long terme sur les m\u00eames individus au fil du temps. Nous avons pu compl\u00e9ter cela en scellant les sp\u00e9cimens sous vide, en les pla\u00e7ant sur de la glace, puis en ajustant leur temp\u00e9rature \u00e0 l'aide d'un bain d'eau. Ainsi, nous pourrons fournir des meilleures pratiques m\u00e9thodologiques pour l'utilisation de la RMQ afin de mesurer la composition corporelle des amphibiens en laboratoire et sur le terrain, couvrant une gamme de temp\u00e9ratures que l'on pourrait attendre des amphibiens sauvages.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dans l'ensemble, la RMQ est une nouvelle technologie passionnante qui offre aux biologistes de la faune une meilleure fa\u00e7on d'\u00e9tudier la condition\/composition corporelle des animaux de fa\u00e7on plus \u00e9thique tant en laboratoire que sur le terrain.
