Dans le monde d'aujourd'hui, l'id\u00e9e que toutes les esp\u00e8ces peuvent \u00eatre efficacement conserv\u00e9es avec une gestion minimale simplement en cr\u00e9ant de grandes zones d'habitat prot\u00e9g\u00e9 est irr\u00e9aliste. Il y a un besoin croissant de gestion active et d'intervention humaine \u00e0 long terme, guid\u00e9e par des plans strat\u00e9giques adapt\u00e9s aux besoins de conservation des esp\u00e8ces. C'est l\u00e0 qu'intervient CPSG Canada !<\/p>\n<p>CPSG Canada est un centre de ressources r\u00e9gional du Groupe de sp\u00e9cialistes de la planification de la conservation (CPSG), faisant partie de la Commission de la survie des esp\u00e8ces de l'Union internationale pour la conservation de la nature. Pour am\u00e9liorer les efforts nationaux de conservation et sauver des esp\u00e8ces, CPSG Canada utilise les outils et processus de planification mondialement reconnus du CPSG, fournit un soutien technique et de facilitation pour les ateliers de planification, et renforce les capacit\u00e9s de planification de la conservation au Canada. CPSG Canada est h\u00e9berg\u00e9 par Conservation de la faune au Canada (CFC) et soutenu par des membres du Safari africain et du Wilder Institute\/Zoo de Calgary.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div><div  class='flex_column av-16hhnfh-af02c95c71b6b60129d670195de8fc6c av_one_full  avia-builder-el-7  el_after_av_one_full  el_before_av_one_full  first flex_column_div  column-top-margin'     ><section  class='av_textblock_section av-beregil-1975846410e06357422362a1605db925'   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ici, \u00e0 CFC, on trouve les grenouilles pas mal fascinantes. Pour bien des gens, attraper des t\u00eatards dans l'\u00e9tang du coin a \u00e9t\u00e9 leur toute premi\u00e8re rencontre avec le monde animal. Les grenouilles nous ouvrent la porte \u00e0 la faune qui nous entoure, mais elles jouent aussi, comme les autres amphibiens, un r\u00f4le essentiel dans l'\u00e9quilibre des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes. Elles font partie de l'\u00e9quipe de lutte antiparasitaire du quartier (elles d\u00e9vorent l'insecte que tout le monde d\u00e9teste : le moustique), tout en servant elles-m\u00eames de repas \u00e0 d'autres esp\u00e8ces, un maillon important de la cha\u00eene alimentaire. Comme elles vivent \u00e0 la fois dans l'eau et sur terre, elles participent aussi au cycle des nutriments et sont d'excellents indicateurs de la sant\u00e9 des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes. Pas \u00e9tonnant qu'elles occupent une place importante dans les cultures du monde entier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Malheureusement, <strong>les grenouilles du monde entier sont en crise<\/strong>. En fait, <strong>les amphibiens forment le groupe de vert\u00e9br\u00e9s le plus menac\u00e9 sur la plan\u00e8te<\/strong>. Depuis les ann\u00e9es 1980, les grenouilles et les autres amphibiens connaissent un d\u00e9clin rapide, et parfois m\u00eame l'extinction, \u00e0 cause de la perte d'habitat, des esp\u00e8ces envahissantes, des changements climatiques et des maladies. Une pand\u00e9mie mondiale caus\u00e9e par le champignon chytride qui est responsable pour 80 % des extinctions r\u00e9centes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La gestion ex situ (c'est-\u00e0-dire garder des animaux en lieu s\u00fbr en captivit\u00e9) est essentielle \u00e0 la survie et au r\u00e9tablissement de bien des esp\u00e8ces en p\u00e9ril. Les populations en captivit\u00e9 offrent un filet de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 contre l'extinction, et l'\u00e9levage de conservation ouvre la porte \u00e0 de futurs efforts de restauration des populations. Le Groupe de sp\u00e9cialistes de la planification de la conservation a mis au point des <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpsg.org\/our-work\/what-we-do\/ex-situ-conservation-assessment-0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lignes directrices et un processus d'atelier<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pour \u00e9valuer si la gestion ex situ est une option r\u00e9aliste \u00e0 inclure dans un plan de r\u00e9tablissement. Heureusement pour les amphibiens, ils demandent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement moins d'espace et de ressources que d'autres groupes comme les oiseaux ou les mammif\u00e8res, ce qui r\u00e9duit les co\u00fbts. Cela dit, <strong>les programmes d'\u00e9levage et de remise en libert\u00e9 exigent la collaboration de nombreux partenaires<\/strong>, autant sur le terrain qu'aupr\u00e8s des animaux en captivit\u00e9, et demandent des ann\u00e9es d'efforts intensifs et de ressources pour r\u00e9ussir. On croit qu'il ne reste que quelques centaines d'individus reproducteurs, r\u00e9partis dans quelques petites populations dispers\u00e9es dans la vall\u00e9e du Fraser, en Colombie-Britannique. Son habitat est menac\u00e9 par le d\u00e9veloppement urbain, la conversion des terres agricoles, l'extraction de ressources et les modifications du r\u00e9gime hydrologique.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Mesures de conservation :<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Depuis 2010, CFC \u00e9l\u00e8ve et r\u00e9introduit des milliers de t\u00eatards et de jeunes grenouilles macul\u00e9es de l'Oregon dans les milieux humides de la vall\u00e9e du Fraser. Ces jeunes servent \u00e0 renforcer les populations sauvages existantes, mais aussi \u00e0 en \u00e9tablir de nouvelles dans des sites propices o\u00f9 l'esp\u00e8ce avait disparu. Un programme continu de marquage-recapture et un suivi approfondi des masses d'\u0153ufs, men\u00e9s par nos partenaires de r\u00e9tablissement, montrent les effets positifs de ces remises en libert\u00e9 sur les populations historiques : les donn\u00e9es \u00e0 long terme confirment que nos rel\u00e2chers ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 stabiliser ces populations. L'intensification de l'agriculture et la pr\u00e9dation des \u0153ufs et des grenouilles par des esp\u00e8ces non indig\u00e8nes ont fait chuter la population dans les ann\u00e9es 1980. Malheureusement, un d\u00e9versement de pesticides survenu en 1987 a r\u00e9duit la population \u00e0 un seul \u00e9tang de reproduction sur toute l\u2019\u00eele!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Mesures de conservation :<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> La Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust \u00e9l\u00e8ve des grenouilles agiles et les rel\u00e2che dans la nature depuis plus de 20 ans. Guid\u00e9s par un plan d'action pour l'esp\u00e8ce, les partenaires gouvernementaux restaurent et prot\u00e8gent l'habitat, notamment en cr\u00e9ant de nouveaux \u00e9tangs, pendant que Durrell fait grandir les \u0153ufs et les t\u00eatards dans un contenant bios\u00e9curis\u00e9 au zoo de Jersey, jusqu'\u00e0 peu avant la m\u00e9tamorphose. L'environnement en captivit\u00e9 est con\u00e7u pour reproduire les cycles saisonniers de temp\u00e9rature et de lumi\u00e8re, et des technologies de reproduction assist\u00e9e servent \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer le succ\u00e8s reproducteur et \u00e0 permettre des \u00e9changes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques entre populations afin de r\u00e9duire la consanguinit\u00e9. En 2018, des centaines de grenouilles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 saisies \u00e0 l'a\u00e9roport de Bogot\u00e1. Consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme une esp\u00e8ce prioritaire pour la conservation, plusieurs dizaines de grenouilles v\u00e9n\u00e9neuses de Lehmann ont \u00e9t\u00e9 transf\u00e9r\u00e9es au zoo de Cali pour y \u00e9tablir un programme d'\u00e9levage de conservation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Mesures de conservation :<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Le zoo de Cali a mis sur pied une installation d'\u00e9levage \u00e0 la fine pointe de la technologie et des protocoles adapt\u00e9s aux besoins reproducteurs particuliers de cette esp\u00e8ce. Une attention toute sp\u00e9ciale est port\u00e9e au bien-\u00eatre des animaux, notamment gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des n\u00e9buliseurs qui maintiennent un taux d'humidit\u00e9 ad\u00e9quat dans le terrarium de chaque couple reproducteur. Le zoo a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 \u00e9lever des grenouilles qui ont ensuite \u00e9t\u00e9 rel\u00e2ch\u00e9es dans la nature selon des m\u00e9thodes de remise en libert\u00e9 progressive. Le programme collabore avec les communaut\u00e9s locales pour prot\u00e9ger l'habitat, mettre en place des activit\u00e9s \u00e9conomiques de rechange et surveiller les grenouilles r\u00e9introduites. L'extraction ill\u00e9gale d'eau pour l'exploitation mini\u00e8re, l'agriculture et le d\u00e9veloppement urbain a ass\u00e9ch\u00e9 son habitat, r\u00e9duisant la population sauvage \u00e0 seulement 14 individus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Mesures de conservation :<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> En 2019, les derniers individus sauvages connus ont \u00e9t\u00e9 transf\u00e9r\u00e9s au zoo national du Chili dans le cadre d'une op\u00e9ration de sauvetage d'urgence, cr\u00e9ant ainsi ce qu'on appelle une population de secours. L'entreprise \u00e9tait risqu\u00e9e, l'esp\u00e8ce n'avait jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 maintenue en captivit\u00e9 auparavant, et les grenouilles \u00e9taient en tr\u00e8s mauvais \u00e9tat. Sans cette intervention, elles auraient probablement disparu pour de bon. Contre tout, 500 t\u00eatards ont \u00e9clos au zoo, et 10 grenouilles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 transf\u00e9r\u00e9es vers un nouveau centre de conservation pr\u00e8s de leur habitat d'origine dans l'Atacama, afin d'\u00e9largir le programme d'\u00e9levage et de sensibiliser le public \u00e0 l'environnement. Les partenaires de conservation capturent des adultes au printemps, les gardent bri\u00e8vement le temps de la reproduction et de la ponte, puis les rel\u00e2chent dans la nature. Les \u0153ufs sont \u00e9lev\u00e9s en captivit\u00e9 jusqu'apr\u00e8s la m\u00e9tamorphose, puis rel\u00e2ch\u00e9s dans des \u00e9tangs existants ou nouvellement am\u00e9nag\u00e9s, \u00e0 l'int\u00e9rieur de l'aire de r\u00e9partition de l'esp\u00e8ce. Le suivi post-rel\u00e2cher montre que les grenouilles se dispersent vers les \u00e9tangs voisins, hibernent et se reproduisent dans la nature apr\u00e8s une translocation. Cela dit, la viabilit\u00e9 \u00e0 long terme des populations sans translocation demeure pr\u00e9caire, et l'\u00e9levage de conservation comporte son lot de d\u00e9fis. Stephanie d\u00e9tient une ma\u00eetrise de la Thompson Rivers University, o\u00f9 elle a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 les effets de la mortalit\u00e9 routi\u00e8re sur les populations de crotales de l'Ouest en Colombie-Britannique. Elle cumule plus de dix ans d'exp\u00e9rience en conservation et en recherche aupr\u00e8s d'une grande diversit\u00e9 d'esp\u00e8ces menac\u00e9es, au Canada comme ailleurs dans le monde, notamment la
